the movie’s pace is not just terribly slow, but also very monotonous. nothing happens and nothing gets resolved. all the characters are so cliche. the end results are also so predictable. it’s a waste of time!

in her debut, malavika mohanan shines through with excellent performances in two key roles. as priya, the young-at-heart heroine who sees the wonders of lord krishna for herself, she is luminous in her acting. her performance is commendable. however, the movie does not live up to the expectation of the role. her other character as kalyug’s younger sister does not come out as a standout performance. one expects the actress to do better. she is gorgeous and can hold her own in front of the camera. a sound performance from the tamil actress.

as for the rest of the cast, manoj bajpayee fails to impress as kalyug. his character is underwritten and adds little to the proceedings. akshay kumar shines in his role as a suave and sophisticated doctor. he delivers the best performance in the film, managing to blend in multiple roles. sonu sood’s role as a magician is contrived and repetitive. as for the villain, who gets the best of the actor, his character lacks the depth and mystery required of a villain. bajee looks at his antagonist and doesn’t even try to put up a show. it comes across as a role played out of routine. suraj venjaramoodu is forgettable in a cameo role.

kalyug is an entertaining film. it will be a hit if the director continues to use it as a platform to experiment with the times. the film will be a mammoth hit for the first time director amrit sagar. it’s safe to say that the film has the potential to become a legend. with the kind of potential the film has, there will be more kalyug in the future.
