EPU BIOS 2.0 provides the easiest way to manage fan speeds, monitor voltage, adjust clocks, and set graphics profiles. Real-time GPU monitoring tracks temperatures, fan speeds, and voltages so you can see real-time information on how your graphics card is performing while gaming or working. If you frequently use your computer for gaming, you can choose the optimal graphics mode while you’re in-game to get the best frame-rates without having to manually change settings. ASUS Aura RGB Lighting can be enabled/disabled under the lighting sub-menu to match the mood of your room, as well as set the keyboard backlight to one of the following choices: 3 levels, 5 levels, incremental, 8 levels, 16 levels, or 256 levels. All of these can be adjusted on-the-fly without any extra software. With two internal USB 3.1 Type-A ports (one of which can be used to simultaneously charge two devices), the ASUS X99-A is the perfect motherboard for a wide variety of multimedia devices, from HD entertainment to mobile Internet and backup storage.

GBE LAN is a new take on Intel’s Intel® Gigabit Ethernet technology that allows you to create a private, private network on your motherboard to create a dedicated system for your gaming console or home theater PC. Simply connect the network cable from your console or PC to the motherboard’s GBE LAN port to create a high-speed private link between the two devices. This intelligent system separates the network traffic between the two computers for blazing-fast transfer speeds (up to 1.73Gbps in the ASUS RT-AC68U AC1900 802.11ac Dual Band USB 3.0 Router). Install the ASUS RT-AC68U AC1900 802.11ac Dual Band USB 3.0 Router or the ASUS XG Station app to control your GBE LAN connection using the mobile app. The RT-AC68U and the XG Station app can be used anywhere you want to connect to your private network.

There are a number of other software improvements that are onboard with the Z97. One of the most pertinent in regards to Thermal Radar is the inclusion of an in-built 32 MB thermal diode as well as an embedded component that spans the entire board length. The diode is used to monitor board and CPU temperatures. It features instantaneous readings when enabled, and 2-minute fixed readings when disabled. It also provides 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 minute readings when enabled. All in all, it provides an instant fan-speed based modification of the chipset heatsink/fan when using 3DMark.  A-Tuning 3.0 – Our good friends at ASUS have revised their video tuning utility to version 3.0 for Z97. It is available for Windows 8 and 7, via a software DVD. There is a “trial mode” that gives limited information on your system, but is limited to 2 minutes of GPU testing. This is not what you want to look at if you are serious about overclocking. The full mode is what you want to look at. Although not the most fully functional product, it provides three adjustable parameters for the GPU fan control.  A-Tuning is not bundled with the Thermal Radar program. It is a separate product. However, it does not come with the base graphics software, but you can purchase that separately. As mentioned above, the trial mode is not extensive, but the normal mode is designed for the full Z97 experience. It covers a full range of components, like CPU, memory and GPU temperature. Plus, it has an auto-reset function to prevent overheating and potential shutdown. We have a series of articles to cover A-Tuning in great detail. 5ec8ef588b
