7/10 THE NEW FANTASY ACTION RPG. Rise, Tarnished, and be guided by grace to brandish the power of the Elden Ring Full Crack and become an Elden Lord in the Lands Between. À la Tom Braidwood? This game works quite differently from high fantasy in the traditional sense of the word (read my first impressions here), but most importantly, it also has a story. The story is built on a high level of abstraction, but it’s clear that the developers have a lot of ideas and very well developed plotlines. They have the potential to create an interesting and substantial universe based on the Codex Arpen and the four Lords, and this could make the game stand out on its own. Unfortunately, that’s where my praise ends. I don’t believe that there’s enough gameplay to pull us into the story. The new combat system is decent, but there’s not enough going on. In fact, it’s a lot of menus. The combat sections are certainly well-designed, but are definitely too slow and punishing for my taste. There are a number of optional quests that reward you with equipment or other gameplay improvements, and they provide a little thrill during the early stages of the game, but it’s almost all that ends up happening. It’s like the standard conversion of a menu-based RPG to an action RPG. The difficulty level is appropriate, and the controls are responsive, but I found that as soon as I reached level 25, there was nothing to do. There aren’t any side quests, and the only way to explore was to grind in the fields or take on other monsters. As for the weapons, it’s largely a matter of experimentation and knowing what I was supposed to hit. To be perfectly honest, the game is so basic, that I had to wonder how much work had gone into it. There is no way that this game could have earned a $50 price tag. It certainly isn’t worthy of the cost of a new, high-end console. I feel like it would have been better off if it had been a free-to-play title, where players had a choice between two to three difficulty levels, and where they could grind through the game on their own terms.
