dolly is the daughter of a lawyer (kamal tiwari), a shop owner (raza murad) and a woman who sells a glass bangles (amrita singh). she falls in love with omkara when they meet at her grandfathers shop. she is a typical girl of the time, very innocent, very naive. omi is an educated and well read man, he also reads the newspaper on a daily basis.
omi and dolly are married and live happily. dolly is in love with omkara, but he does not reciprocate her feelings. meanwhile, omi is taking care of omkara as well as his wife and child. omi is caught up in a political game, a game that has no regard to morality or human life. omi is a simple man and is loyal to his friends. omi also performs the duties of a father. he makes sure to send money to his wife and daughter, in fact omkara even sends money to his wife. a fact which only upsets omkara. omi is also a favourite of the local party leader, tiwari. tiwari is running the election and he asks omkara to be the face of his party, to be the local hero. this is a dangerous game, one that could have very damaging consequences.
omi and his friends feel that omkara is taking advantage of his position in tiwari bhaisaab s party. omi knows that the mla would rather work with omkara. omi realises that he is not playing a good game. he asks omkara to return dolly to her family. omkara asks omi to come to his house where he can explain everything to him and where dolly is also present. omkara asks omkara to explain everything to dolly and he will go to tiwari bhaisaab and tell him the truth. omkara then goes to tiwari bhaisaab and tells him the truth and confronts him. tiwari bhaisaab is sympathetic to omkara and agrees to return dolly to omkara. omi, realising his mistake, now wants to win back dolly and marry her. he tells omkara to go away, that he will talk to tiwari bhaisaab and return the favour. omi later meets dolly, his wife and her mother and father and apologises for being a selfish person and asks for her hand in marriage. dolly refuses to marry him and reveals to omkara all the things she has been doing while she was married to him. dolly also confesses that she is pregnant with omkara s child. omkara is heartbroken and leaves. he meets his wife in front of his house and slaps her, in front of his son. omkara then goes to tiwari bhaisaab and hands him over all the documents and accuses him of double crossing him. omkara leaves, with a money box that has the money he earned as a result of his crime. omkara goes back to his home and tells his wife that the money box was his. omkara then goes back to tiwari bhaisaab and expresses his will to work for him again. tiwari bhaisaab tells omkara that he should go to the foreign land and bring back the famous dancer chhoti siya (jaya prada).
there is a lot of dramatic intensity in omkara, but it is overshadowed by the sheer number of characters and the plot. the drama revolves around the love affair between omkara and dolly mishra. the film does not show the intensity of the relationship between omkara and dolly in the proper light. the film has a slow-paced storyline. omkara is a fast-paced protagonist and thus, the problem of how to give him character emerges. ajay devgn is the best actor in the film. vivek oberoi is good, but he is not the main character in the film. naseer, on the other hand, is good. however, he does not get enough scope to show his talent. there are so many characters in the film that the film loses focus and fails to create a sense of suspense. omkara, the latest bollywood venture directed by vishal bhardwaj, promises to introduce a new cinema of human realities, a cinema that is not a replica of hollywood. in a way, the film revives the memories of india’s glorious past. for the first time in bollywood, omkara is about love that blurs all differences. on the other hand, the film also brings to light the dark sides of humanity, the moments of vengeance and the fear of losing a loved one. omi and dolly were childhood friends. on the night of their wedding, omkara is told by his father that he is not dolly’s husband but he is her rapist. omkara is devastated. dolly, however, tells omkara the truth, and he is very happy. when omkara comes to know about langda’s murder, he is determined to avenge his crime. while omkara is happy with dolly, dolly is infatuated with omkara. and thus the story progresses. initially omkara blames dolly for her father’s death. but, he soon comes to know that he is the actual culprit. 5ec8ef588b
