first things first; make sure your computer has the proper software installed. most if not all macs sold today come with the siri function, and most should also include the xcode function. you may also need to download some firmware updates for you mac; there are simple instructions on the mac website, but ive had trouble with all my macs after theyve been inactive for more than a few months; even a brand new macbook pro from 2012 stopped working, even with a firmware update. i justve started charging mine to restart my mac, and then remove the new battery for a few hours; then charge it back up and let it sit for a week or so until it starts working again. if you want to go this route, get the macos_universal_updater program from the mac app store, and go to the mac main website and download the latest version of xcode 4. run the program, and install the needed firmware, and also download the latest siri firmware; you only need to do this if your mac doesnt already have the function.
as part of the sacd release, sony was introducing a new game-changing feature to their players, which was the ability to connect to the internet via a cellular network. music stores were quick to jump on board, and soon cell phones became the ideal portable music player, and helped fuel the sacd for a while. cd-da became obsolete overnight. for the audiophile, sacds would remain a fad for just a few years before the format would die off.
the discs i had access to were fantastic, and the work i did as a reviewer for sacd was certainly different than anything i had done before; i spent a lot of time analyzing the disc and running tests, comparing the results, and if i didnt like the format of a particular disc i would write a detailed review detailing exactly what the pros and cons were of sacd. it was a lot of work, but i enjoyed it, and despite all the negativity that i would hear about the sacd format during my career, i never doubted it would have a lasting influence on audio.
as i mentioned above, using usb 3.0 will significantly speed up the rip process. as for my current mac with usb 2.0 connections, ive only had one issue that required a reboot. i plug the flash drive in, and there is usually some sort of pop or click; ive been under the impression that this indicates that the device is recognized by the mac, and it is, but there is apparently some sort of newfangled message board board or something that gets activated, and then the bd player seems to freeze up. i turn off the bd player, and it will sometimes power up, then turn off again. after coming up empty in my thrift store pursuit, i randomly checked out my normal haunt, goodwill, for a replacement unit. sure enough, i found a bx510 at a goodwill for a mere $11. while i was somewhat skeptical of my luck in finding an apparently good working player, it actually worked well enough after the initial setup, and i was able to rip my sacds to flac with no problems. i only purchased the player to rip sacds, but the video and audio quality with the unit is not bad at all. its a shame that i couldnt have found a bx510 at a retail store, but i guess im grateful for the savings on the unit i bought at a thrift store (only $10!) and the ability to rip sacds with it, now that im satisfied with the function of the unit. they had the same model but different numbers, and the bx520 actually worked perfectly without the change on the inside. i will buy this game from you guys, i just need to split the cost with my colleague! just picked up a new player, bx710. ive used the sony on and off for a couple years, and its never had a problem with its av output. the bx570 was a very good but ultimately unreliable player, but the bx710 seems to be a good unit, although i cant speak to its reliability. it isnt called ‘the bx520’, apparently. 5ec8ef588b
