I am currently using Digital Performer 11 and in order to up the speed of the mix this is what I was thinking of doing. Add as many VSTs into the first Audio region and add an effect (e.g. Compressor) in each, over the Audio regions (as in the clip to the right). Add Effects, Compressors, etc (as many as you need/want) in each Audio region and go back to the mix track (top of the screen) and have them sum over the top of each other. Is there any reason why I should not try the first method. I am quite new to the whole audio mixing thing (yet to master my first mix). 1 Answer 1 The first method you mention could work but you’re missing a few things. Depending on the FX software you’re using, it might be easier to save the files in one of the other formats. If you’re using DAW software, you could just create a plugin with a blank patch. Of course, that’s a lot easier if you’re using 32-bit plugins (your Cmms example is 64-bit only). But for a one-shot, it’s probably better to find a plug-in where you can at least choose 32- or 64-bit. That way, you can see what your gains are and what they actually are, instead of depending on the plugin author to build in the correct bitness. Also, unless you’re using some pretty high-end software, it’s generally best to use 16- or 24-bit samples, not 32-bit. It’s possible to add some aliasing using a heavily compressed format, but it’s rarely worth the time or effort. To answer your original question, though, unless the plugins have something specific in their documentation, you’re probably better off just running them from the same 32- or 64-bit software. There might be some benefit to be found there, but even if it’s only a 3dB reduction in hiss, that’s worth making a recording of and comparing it to a clean version.Events Join Ms. Odell at the University of Minnesota in her visit Join Ms. Odell for her presentation on April 12, 2018, at the University of Minnesota.
